Thanks, Leadership Day 2011

Leadership Day 2011 has become very inspiring!  So far, there are 76 blog posts listed that talk about Technology and Leadership in one way or another. I have read a few, but look forward to read many, many more.

One blog post that I read tonight really spoke to what I wrote in my own Leadership Day 2011 post.  Kipp Rogers wrote a blog post entitled,  “Five Web 2.0 Tools Principals Can’t Live Without”.  The five tools he wrote about included:

1. Twitter

2. Today’s Meet

3.  Glogster

4.  Blogger

5. Photobucket

You can visit Kipp’s blogpost if you want a direct link to each of the 2.0 Web tools listed above.

It wasn’t those 5 tools thought that caught my attention.

Kipp wrote about the Principals’ Digital Playground (PDP) Workshops that he helped to implement in his district.  Kipp writes,

“Once a month we invited principals to come to the School Board Office to play with various technology devices and web 2.0 tools for a couple of hours. The idea was to give principals a non-threatening venue to experience some of the very tools that we want teachers and kids to use on a daily basis.

At each “play date”, we spent about 15 minutes giving principals basic instruction on tools such as, Twitter and Glogster. During the rest of the time, principals just played with the tools and identified ways that they could use them for instructional leadership purposes.”

Kipp took the information from these PDP sessions and from his own learning and came up with the 5 tech tools listed above.

These “play dates”  are exactly what I had envisioned for our district!  I think this would be just so awesome and I really do believe it would make a difference in our schools!

A fellow administrator pointed out to me today that, with the upcoming job-action, teachers and administrators will not be able to meet with one another outside of classroom hours.  So, perhaps administrators can meet with one another and use this time to learn together instead. Then, once we are able to meet with the teachers again, we’ll have plenty of wonderful tools and information to share with them!

I want to thank Kipp for his inspiring words.  I look forward to reading, and learning from, many more Leadership Day 2011 blog posts.

About T. Henriksen

There are many things that define who I am as a person. First of all, I am a mother of 3 wonderful children! I can not express how fortunate we are to have our children in our life! Secondly, I am a Vice-Principal of an elementary school in a wonderful, vibrant, complex, and growing school district. I have worked in this district since 1995, and became a Vice-Principal in 2005. Lastly, I am a person who loves photography. I gain so much enjoyment and satisfaction taking photos. I have learned a great deal about photography since I purchased my first dSLR in 2008. There is so much more to learn though! All three of these things help to describe who I am as a person, but also demonstrate my love of learning - nothing is ever stagnant with any of these. I love to learn!
